What more can a batting unit ask if its top six includes Virender Sehwag, Mahela Jayawardene, Kevin Pietersen and Ross Taylor? Welcome to the world of the Delhi Daredevils. If you are wondering whether a batting line-up can get any better, they also have the big-hitting Irfan Pathan down the order.

Besides, power-hitters Glenn Maxwell and Andre Russell are desperately waiting for an opportunity while David Warner, the explosive Australia opener, is yet to arrive.

Power-packed With so much firepower in their arsenal, the Daredevils’ batsmen are bound to dominate most bowling attacks. That is why it is not surprising to see the them sit atop the points tally.

With such a star-studded and reliable batting line-up, it would be rare when none of the awesome four come good. And that has not happened so far.

Each of these four is a match-winner.

While Pietersen and Sehwag have given more than a glimpse of it, Taylor hasn’t got much of an opportunity with the latest of his three IPL teams. Jayawardene would be itching to end his drought during Tuesday’s face-off against Pune.

Despite Jayawardene’s lack of big runs, coach Eric Simons wasn’t concerned. While admitting that bolstering of the batting line-up had a lot to do with his team’s failure to put up big scores last year, Simons said: “Every team has its strengths, and ours is in batting.”

ONE-MAN ARMY
It can, however, turn out to be a batting-centric unit though, with Morne Morkel emerging as a one-man bowling unit. Barring him, none of the others have been as consistent as they are supposed to be at this level.
