THE STUDENT leaders bashed up newly appointed chief proctor DN Yadav and even tried to manhandle vice-chancellor Prof Arun Kumar at DDU Gorakhpur University campus today.
Student leaders, along with the university employees, who were on strike since past five days, gheraoed Prof Kumar at Samwad Bhawan for at least two hours. They asked Prof Kumar to take initiative to address their demands.
Though Prof Kumar held two round meeting with the university employees’ leaders and students’ union office bearers but failed to end the deadlock. On Monday, a delegation of student leaders reached the V-C office and shouted slogans in support of their demands to start evening classes and to complete the admission in self-financed courses. They also demanded to announce the date for student union’s election. The university employees who were on strike for sixth consecutive day also joined the students’ agitation, which triggered off more trouble for the university administration.
The enraged student leaders and employees even tried to misbehave with V-C and damaged his official vehicle. Later Prof Kumar assured the students to fulfill all their demands by November 28.
After pacifying the anger of the student leaders, now it was the turn for employees’ union leaders and V-C had a tough time to convince them.
MLA Dr RMD Agrawal also reached the spot and tried to sort out the issue but after three round of talks, V-C failed to end the deadlock due to inflexible attitude of finance officer. He assured the employees that he would relieve finance officer if he did not obey his order and on this assurance the gheraoed was postponed till next morning.
