THE face of Kanpur police was revealed when two businessmen were arrested by the Nazirabad police at an ice cream parlour near Motijheel. When a ?deal? for their overnight release could not materialise, the cops framed them in an attempt-to-murder case. The businessmen said they fired two bullets in air with a licensed revolver, following a spat between them and two motorcycle-borne youth. And that seems to be their fault.

The incident took place on Wednesday night and the police filed a case Thursday morning.
The two businessmen are Ramesh Kumar Gurunani, a resident of Purana Siasamau and Kishore Kalra, a resident of Indraprast Apartments in Govind Nagar. While Gurnani owns a shop named Harish Textiles at Generalganj, Kalra is a transporter.
At the Nazirabad police station lock up on Thursday morning, the two businessmen described their side of the story. Ramesh said, “Along with Kishore, I went to attend a marriage ceremony at our friend, Trivedi’s house in Unnao.
There we consumed some liquor and returned to the city at midnight. Here at Motijheel, we stopped outside an ice cream parlor to buy ice cream for our children. Suddenly two motorcycle-borne youth hit our car and following an altercation, they picked up bricks. We panicked and I fired two shots in air from my licensed revolver,” added Harish.
Hearing the gunfire, two constables of Nazirabad police, Anil Kumar and Firoz Alam, openly threatened us to give them Rs 10,000 or else they would have to take them to the police station. Ramesh and Kishore alleged that when they denied them money, the cops took them to the police station and even snatched their jewellery.
According to allegations made by the two businessmen, who were crying when this correspondent reached there, the whole night police officials bargained with them for an amount for their release. “The bargaining started with Rs 1 lakh and came down to a mere Rs 25,000 in the morning but as we didn’t want our family members to know that we were in police custody, we could not arrange for even a single rupee,” said Kishore.
However, the police sent the two businessmen to jail on Thursday morning after leveling Section 307 on the two. Police said it had recovered a .32 bore revolver besides 14 live cartridges and two empty cartridges from the possession of the two.
Meanwhile, Circle Officer of Nazirabad Amrita Mishra said, “The two were booked under Section 307 of IPC, as they fired straight and were heavily drunk.”
However, the police appeared clueless when asked if the bullets were fired straight, where they had struck?
