The general body also unanimously resolved that the annual general body meeting of the HCBA shall take place in the second week of February for the appointment of the panel of returning officers to hold the election before February 28.

According to HCBA secretary IK Chaturvedi, the general body meeting of HCBA was held in the Library Hall under the chairmanship of CL Pandey, president.

The secretary also made an appeal to the members of the Bar to clear their dues by February 6 otherwise their names would be deleted from the HCBA rolls.

The secretary further made it clear that there would be no extension of date for depositing the dues. Therefore, he requested all members to clear their dues so as to get the voting right in the forthcoming election. He warned that the defaulters would get no voting rights.

To recall, one year term of the present office-bearers of HCBA expired in December 2004. As per rule, the annual election of the HCBA should have been held much earlier and new office-bearers should have taken charge immediately after passing of one year in December 2004, but no process for holding of election took place and one year has passed without any election.

However, during the course of hearing of PIL petition, a Division Bench of this court made it clear that there was no stay on holding the HCBA election. At one stage, when this issue was again brought to the notice of the court, the HCBA secretary gave a statement before the Division Bench that election of HCBA will be held before February 6, 2006.

A large number of HCBA members hope that the new body of the HCBA will be formed before February 28.
