The KDA enforcement squad got over 3000 sq metre of land, worth over Rs 1 crore, vacated during the drive.

According to joint secretary KDA and nodal officer of the enforcement wing IP Pandey, there was no protest from the encroachers, paving the way for a smooth drive.

The KDA officials said that the land was owned by the authority. However, land mafia after encroaching upon the KDA land, had sold it to a few people.

Assuming the land to be theirs, those who purchased the land got houses constructed on it.

Meanwhile, the KMC enforcement squad’s demolition drive had to be halted at two different places following tension. According to KMC officials, illegal encroachment was to be removed on the request of BSA.

The KMC enforcement squad had razed about four illegal structures when one of the encroachers received injuries leading to tension in the area. Unavailability of heavy police force on the spot forced the ACM VI to abandon the drive.

Similarly, after dismantling over a half-a-dozen boilers at various tanneries responsible for pollution, the drive had to be called off as the owners and employees started creating ruckus in the area.  It is pertinent to mention that the drive was being carried out on the directives of district magistrate Anurag Srivastava following directives from the High Court to ban tanneries and factories creating pollution in the area.

AMC PK Tripathi said that the drive had to be halted owing to unavailability of adequate police force.
