Apropos of Ramachandra Guha’s article The shock absorbers (July 25), mature societies are expected to allow their icons to be placed under the scanner and develop tolerance for various, and sometimes conflicting, viewpoints about their ideologies and political acts. But, disparaging remarks about towering personalities amount to vilification and tarnishing of their image. All our icons and heroes contributed their best to the motherland, so let’s not denigrate them.
