"A passenger tried to manhandle some fellow passengers and also attacked an air-hostess on board. But no formal complaint has been lodged," an official at Ahmedabad airport said.

"We heard about the incident only from fellow-passengers, who were very scared when the flight landed here."

The person, identified as Hardik Trivedi, is apparently suffering from depression and personality disorder, whose ostensible reason is his job loss in Muscat in West Asia, from where he was returning.

When he started shouting on board, passengers caught and subdued him while a doctor, who was also travelling, injected him with tranquillisers, said sources at the airport.

He was taken to a private hospital after the flight landed. "He was not speaking much at the hospital, and seemed highly disturbed," said a police official at the airport police station.
