Expressing concern over the declining interest in reading, Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh today asked children to give adequate thrust to the habit.

"A bookstall represents every share of mind and reading is the only addiction which totally possesses a human being", he said while inaugurating the New Delhi World Book Fair here.

Recalling country's rich heritage in both written and spoken words, he said the same has been recognised and honoured since India has been invited as the Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair this year.

Speaking on the occasion, Jnanpith award winner Mahasweta Devi called for more book fairs at district level so that books in vernacular languages reach all people.

Distinguished historian Romila Thapar suggested the renewal of library movement.

The nine-day fair will have an exclusive pavilion for children and a specially designed youth pavilion.
