Principal of SIE, Dr Sutta Singh told HT Live on Saturday that yoga, pranayam, national and international sports had been incorporated in the 6th, 7th and 8th standard text books. "These books which contain colourful pictures, diagrams, attract students automatically. Therefore, a teacher has to play a minimal role as far sports teachings is concerned", said Dr Singh.

"Need of having physical education and its benefits have been clearly defined for class 6 students. Every chapter begins in conversational language so that students may grasp the contents easily. Importance of marching , national flag, anthem and patriotism are the other areas of focus of these the books. Several asans to keep physically fit are the parts of the new text books which are in printing press at present. Rules and detailed information like measurement of grounds, kabaddi, kho-kho and races have been added for all round development of students at any cost.

Special attention has been given while dealing the Yoga subject. To create interest among students, the chapter begins with conversation of Sheela and her brother Ramesh on yoga . The last chapter deals with sports spirit and discipline like it states taking part in sports is much more important than getting victory.

Similarly, class-seven book focuses on the topics like our body, sport and meals, first medical aid and international sports. Vitamins, protein, fat and carbohydrates are the parts of sports and our meals chapter. Breaking of bones, getting injured and other sport injuries on the grounds have been included in the First Aid chapter.

The class-8 text book has defined pranayam in lucid way along with pictures. Different types of race, hockey, football, kapalbhati, anulom-vilom and bhramari are the other important topics for class-8 students.

These books would prove to be a boon in promotion of sports, physical, mental and intellectual development of students, Principal said.
