It may be mentioned that the members of Varanasi Development Authority Board had okayed the establishment of the proposed hi-tech city in Varanasi between Rohania and Mohansarai on 22 acres of land.

The activists and local farmers were of the view that the proposal of the government to establish a hi-tech city in the district would compound the miseries of farmers of affected villages. They further termed the move of the proposed hi- tech city as an ‘anti-farmers move’.

District president of the Youth Brigade Bablu Rajbhar said that since the farmers were dependent on their lands, the proposal for the establishment of the hi-tech city in Varanasi would have an adverse impact on their earnings.

“ The farmers would never allow the district administration to acquire their lands at any cost”, he said and added that they would intensify their agitation in case the government did not withdraw the establishment of the proposed hi-tech city in the district. He informed that a grand kisan sammelan would be organised at the district headquarters to intensify their agitation. The activists had already submitted a charter of demands to the divisional commissioner for the withdrawal of the proposed hi-tech city. Virendra Pratap Yadav of the Youth Brigade said that the protest of his organisation would continue till the withdrawal of the establishment of the proposed city in the district.

A large numbers of farmers are protesting the proposal of government for the establishment of hi-tech city in the district. Padyatras, processions, demonstration, signature campaign etc have already been organised for the past one week to register their protest against the establishment of the proposed hi-tech city in the district
