?Dhuwa? provides a fitting finale to theatre fest
THE ELEVEN-DAY ?Natya Andolan? concluded with the presentation of two plays at Nagari Natak Mandali auditorium here on Thursday evening. First of all, the artistes of Setu and Bal Rang Mandal staged a play ?Dhuwa?, which was based on the story of Gulzar. The play depicted communal tension sparked off due to dispute over the will of a landlord. Cultural organisations Setu and Bal Rang Mandal had organized the 11-day drama festival.
THE ELEVEN-DAY ‘Natya Andolan’ concluded with the presentation of two plays at Nagari Natak Mandali auditorium here on Thursday evening.
First of all, the artistes of Setu and Bal Rang Mandal staged a play ‘Dhuwa’, which was based on the story of Gulzar. The play depicted communal tension sparked off due to dispute over the will of a landlord. Cultural organisations Setu and Bal Rang Mandal had organized the 11-day drama festival.
Payal Agrawal, Rakesh Vardhan, Sheikh Pyare Ahmad, Ayaz Khan, Umesh Bhatia, Vaibhav Sharma, Ravikant Mishra, Ritesh Srivastava, Kanhaiya, Zulfikar, Saltnat, Suraj Singh, Mohd. Akhtar and Sumit Srivastava etc. staged the play in an impressive manner.
‘Andho Ka Hathi’, authored by Sharad Joshi, was the second play. Five visually challenged touch an elephant and describe the same elephant in their own manner. The artistes targeted social and political discrepancies through the play in an effective way. Saleem Raza had directed the play.
The performance of Reena Singh, Sumit Srivastava, Kanhaiya Gupta, Ritesh Vaibhav and Umesh Bhatia was well appreciated by the audience. As many as 20 colleagues of Setu and Bal Rang Mandal were also felicitated on the occasion.
Earlier, the 73th birthday of senior theatre artiste Neel Kamal Chaterjee ‘Neelu Dada’ was also celebrated on the occasion. Other senior theatre artistes, including Dr Sri Prasad, Dr Jitendra Nath Mishra and Dr Kunwarji Agrawal were also present on the occasion. The senior theatre artistes stressed the need of increasing theatre activities in the present era of globalization. The eminent theatre artistes were of the view that theatre was the most effective medium of communication. Kanchan Kumar Kushwaha welcomed the guests while Saleem Raza told the audience about the need and achievements of Natya Andolan. Pratima Sinha conducted the programme.
