Didn't use govt machinery in son's wedding: Goa CM
Reports in the local media had quoted some Congress leaders as alleging that the chief minister had misused government machinery for his son Abhijat’s wedding ceremony on December 26.
Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday denied charges that he had misused the state machinery for his son’s wedding ceremony held last month.
“I never used any government machinery for the wedding. I travelled in my own car to distribute invitations,” Parrikar, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, said, reacting to allegations levelled against him by a section of opposition leaders.
Reports in the local media had quoted some Congress leaders as alleging that the chief minister had misused government machinery for his son Abhijat’s wedding ceremony on December 26.
BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, party president Rajnath Singh and veteran leader LK Advani, among others, attended the high-octane event.
“I will reply to the allegations if you point out a single allegation of misuse of government machinery against me. If some officer comes with his official car to attend the wedding, then it cannot be termed misuse of machinery,” Parrikar said.
As top BJP brass attended the function, the government machinery had to be used to provide security to the VVIPs, which they are entitled to as per the protocol, the chief minister added.
Parrikar also clarified that the party would hire buses of state-owned Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) by paying charges for the January 12 rally of Narendra Modi in Panaji. Parrikar said the BJP would hire KTCL buses to ferry workers for Modi’s upcoming rally by paying appropriate charges.
“KTCL buses are available for anyone... we are not taking any favours. If the opposition party wants, it can also hire these buses,” the chief minister added.
