Another son rise took place on Wednesday on the political firmament.

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s US-educated son Jai Vardhan’s formal entry into politics was announced in Kolua village, part of the family pocket borough of Raghogarh.

Jai Vardhan, 25, fondly called JV by his father and friends, will cover 50 villages of the Raghogarh constituency through a padyatra of more than 150 km.

After performing puja at his family temple at the Raghogarh fort, 170 km from Bhopal, JV drove with his father to Kolua village, located at the end of the Raghogarh constituency, represented previously by his grandfather, father and uncle.

On the way, villagers burst crackers and garlanded him.

At Kolua, JV said it was while working with an MNC in Mumbai that he decided to get into public service. Pursuing a master’s degree in public administration in development practices at Columbia University, JV said he would be back for good in 2013. Digvijaya said: “You know Mumbai has its charms … but even those could not keep JV away from you.”
