The dip in temperatures come after a warm period of about a week starting from end of the last year. Two days ago, minimum temperature as high as 15 degrees was recorded in the capital. However, during the two days, temperatures have plunged more than five degrees and added with some high velocity winds is causing citizens to shiver.

The drop in temperatures is because of the heavy snowfall in Northern India and the fact that the wind pattern in the State has become somewhat North Easterly to Northerly. As it is still not dead northerly, the process of fall in temperature is slow, Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Director Dr D P Dubey said. He said that over next two days one to two degrees drop in temperature would be recorded all across the State.

On Thursday, Indore recorded a minimum of 7.7 degrees, Gwalior – a shivering 6.4 degrees and Jabalpur 9.3 degrees. In capital, the minimum was 9.7 degrees – two degrees below the normal of the season.
