Disabled should have free access to education

CHIEF COMMISSIONER for Persons with Disabilities, Government of India, Dr Manoj Kumar said that disabled persons should have free access to education and employment to get them into main stream of the society.

He was addressing the State level ‘Rajiv Gandhi Award in The Field of Disability’ function at KN Udupa auditorium in Banaras Hindu University here on Saturday.

Integrated Institute for The Disabled had organised the function. He said there was an urgent need to implement the three per cent reservation scheme for disabled in government services, effectively. He further called upon a cross section of society to extend all possible support to get the disabled persons into the main stream of the society.

Dr Manoj Kumar awarded Rajiv Gandhi Award in The Field of Disability to Amitabh Mehrotra, NP Jain, Sanjay Kumar, Dhaneshwar Dey and Disability Centre Rural Research Society in the ceremony. He also released a book ‘Aspects of Rehabilitation’.

Director of the Institute of Medical Sciences, Prof Gajendra Singh, Medical Superintendent of SS Hospital, Prof S Churamani Gopal, chief general manager of State Bank of India (Lucknow), Shiv Kumar and Divisional General Manager of State Bank of India (Varanasi), NK Malhotra also addressed the gathering.
