Ajit M Sharan, additional chief secretary, power department, asked officials to chalk out a strategy to recover pending amount from connected and disconnected defaulting consumers.

Sharan said targets of recovery of defaulting amount have already been given to the officials and asked to recover the arrears by fixing priority on the basis of amount of arrears.

He said that every effort should be made to recover the defaulting amount from the disconnected consumers also.

Sharan was addressing a meeting of DHBVN officials in Hisar on Wednesday. He stressed that consumers’ complaints should be attended promptly.

He directed the officials to keep complaint registers in the complaint centres besides setting up a call centre to deal with complaints.

He said power theft is a major reason for frequent power cuts and it also causes revenue loss to the department.

Sharan said power theft should be curbed by launching a special campaign. After the detection of a case of theft, FIR must be lodged at the concerned police station. Consumers, who owe large amounts and consumers whose connections have recently been disconnected should be the first targets while detecting theft. Earlier, while presiding over a meeting to review operation activities, Amit Agrawal, MD, DHBVN said that the metering system of the Nigam should be correct and efficient. He asked officials to replace all defective meters.
