IN A rather belated reaction to the violence in North and South Toda areas of the City on January 16, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) today held Congress MLA Ashwin Joshi squarely responsible for the incidents. The RSS demanded action against the erring MLA by both the district administration and the Congress party.
Addressing a press conference here today, Hindu Jagran Manch (an umbrella organisation of Hindu outfits) leader Radheshyam Yadav said that the full responsibility for turning a comparatively small incident into a communal one should fall on Joshi. “Playing the dirty game of vote bank politics, Joshi provoked Muslims in the North and South Toda areas to act against Hindus,” Yadav alleged.
Demanding stern action against Joshi by the district administration and the Congress party, the Hindu Jagran Manch (HJM) leader alleged that the incident took on communal colour when the Congress MLA instigated and led a group of Muslims to act as they did.
The incident was a small one, which was turned into a communal one due to the interference of Joshi who played only vote bank politics. “If the administration tries to weaken the case against Joshi under any political pressure, the RSS will go to any extent against it,” Yadav warned.
The administration had filed FIR against Joshi under Section 307 (attempt to murder). Yadav also said if the Congress party was really secular, it should expel Joshi. Yadav said Ashwin Joshi was behaving this way for cheap popularity. Joshi was seen during the entire incident roaming around with Muslim anti-socials against whom there are several criminal cases.
Justifying the actions of Hindus in Toda area, Yadav said they were protesting against desecration of an idol. Instead of pacifying the people belonging to both sides, Joshi took sides with Muslims.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) City president Prem Baheti, RSS leader Kamal Vaghela and Dharam Raksha Samiti’s Vinod Bidla
were present at the press conference. Also present were the two women of Toda area, who were allegedly abused and threatened by Joshi during the incident.
