Private contractors have been supplying water to each household in DLF Phase-1 every alternate day at a cost of Rs 2,500 per month for the past four months.

“Supply of water from authority is quite less. Even water distributed through tankers engaged by the DLF is not sufficient for a family of three. We have now hired a private contractor who sends water tankers in the area every alternate day,” said JC Puri, one of the residents.

Many residents complained that water from the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) comes only for 15 minutes in the morning and evening at very low pressure. The supply water barely trickles into the underground tanks. The flow is not enough to reach upper floors.

“We need a tanker every second day at our own cost. The authorities had apparently built a new line but no significant change has been seen. We have also written to the DLF for the same and are awaiting a reply," said Hardayal Devgan, a former MP who lives in G-block.

Shortage of water becomes more acute during summers and the residents have been hiring tankers for more than eight months. Though the civic authority claimed to have constructed new water supply lines for this area, people continue to suffer due to lack of underground tanks and faulty pumps.

“Last year we lived on tankers for eight months. Despite various meetings with the civic authorities it has not been solved yet,” said another resident Vivek Luther.
