They have been demanding immediate removal of head of the Department of General Medicine Dr NK Singh and IMS director Prof Gajendra Singh.
Dr Kamal Gupta, Dr Sarvesh, Dr Raghav, Dr Abhishek Singh and Dr Ashutosh sat on the hunger strike under the banner of the Resident Doctors’ Association.
Resident doctors alleged that Prof Gajendra Singh was hand-in-glove with Dr NK Singh, therefore, he paid no heed to their demands.
Resident doctors of various departments, including Anatomy, Anaesthesiology, Cardiology, Dentistry, Forensic Medicine, Gastroenterology, General Medicine, Microbiology, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Nephrology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Opthalmology, Urology, General Surgery, TB and Chest Diseases, Plastic Surgery and Orthopaedics etc., joined the agitation at the Department of General Medicine today.
Resident doctors also stayed away from emergency services, OPD and general wards to register their protest. “We will not extend our services to the intensive care unit in case our demands are not met within 24-hours,” the resident doctors told HT. Sources said emergency services were affected due to the strike.
Meanwhile, the indefinite strike by doctors entered its seventh day today. They were raising slogans like ‘Be honest, be moral’, ‘Satyamev Jayate’ and ‘Dr NK Singh haye haye’.
They alleged that Dr NK Singh was involved in financially harassing poor patients and getting his personnel work done by medical students.
They further alleged that those residents doctors who were unable to satisfy his domestic and financial deeds were penalised by being failed in the final examinations despite having a good academic record.
Resident doctors have warned the BHU administration that they would paralyse the emergency and ICU services in case Dr NK Singh was not removed from his post. Sources said Prof Gajendra Singh held discussions with senior faculty members of IMS and Sir Sunderlal Hospital today to ensure proper health services in view of the ongoing strike.
