The irate resident doctors led by Dr Vikram Singh met BHU V-C at the Central office and informed him about the ‘mass irregularities’ prevailing in IMS and Sir Sunderlal Hospital. The resident doctors also reiterated their demand of removing General Medicine Department Head Dr NK Singh before the V-C.
Around 80 resident doctors also staged a demonstration outside the IMS main building to register their protest this afternoon. Sources said that the V-C assured the agitated resident doctors to initiate corrupt doctors of IMS and Sir Sunderlal Hospital with immediate effect. However, the agitated students stayed away from the out patient department (OPD) and general ward of Sir Sunderlal Hospital on Saturday against the alleged atrocities of Dr NK Singh.
Dr Vikram Singh said that the V-C assured stern disciplinary action against corrupt doctors of IMS and that was the reason why they had postponed their proposed hunger strike, which was scheduled to start on Sunday. He further added that if their demands were not entertained within 48 hours, then they would go on hunger strike from Monday.
The resident doctors had alleged that the postgraduate students registered under Dr NK Singh were being forced by him to satisfy his domestic and financial needs. They had also alleged that Dr NK Singh was harassing financially downtrodden patients by compelling them to undergo unnecessary and very costly investigation from private laboratories outside the BHU Hospital.
Sources said, vice-chancellor Prof Panjab Singh along with rector Prof S Lele also held a meeting today with IMS director Prof Gajendra Singh, medical superintendent of Sir Sunderlal Hospital Prof Churamani Gopal and other senior officials in view of the resident doctors’ strike.
