“Besides, we have plans to revive instruments like nakkara, isaraj, jaltarang, shehnai, rabao, surbahar, duggi tarang that have either been forgotten completely, or are slowly fading out of musical consciousness,” he added.

He was speaking at a function organised at the Kendra in Khurram Nagar on Sunday. The function was graced by National Commission for Minorities Education chairman Justice MA Siddiqui.

Athar Nabi threw light on the activities of the Kendra and said a plan to make its functioning more effective would soon be chalked out.

Justice Siddiqui praised Nabi’s efforts to make the Kendra function despite problems. He said, “Music has no caste or religion. Musicians like Naushad saheb do not come everyday,” he said. He added that he would try to help the Kendra in every way. He asked Nabi to prepare a report on the things that the Kendra required so that he could try to get the necessary funds cleared by the Central Government. Various artistes were felicitated on the occasion.
