GOVERNOR BALRAM Jakhar and Union Minister of State for Personnel and Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachauri kicked off the golden jubilee celebrations of Vikram University here on Tuesday.

In his address, the Governor lamented that everyone was competing to earn more and more money and humanity had been left far behind in the race. Referring to exorbitant fees charged in private colleges, Jakhar urged that the field of education be spared from the tendency so that the new generation could achieve their aspirations.

The emotional Governor said, ‘‘Gandhiji did not struggle to gain independence for the country so that we could have an opportunity to indulge in corruption and malpractices. No one is concerned about nation, it is difficult to find a true human being as demonic tendencies are growing day by day.”

Pachauri emphasised the need to adopt Gandhiji’s satyagrah policies to face the present challenges. He also announced sanction of Rs 5 lakh from his MP discretionary fund to build a stadium building in the university.

MLA and State Minister Paras Jain also spoke on the occasion. Highlighting the achievements of the university, Vice Chancellor Ram Rajesh Mishra said the university had overdraft burden of over Rs 2.67 crore till two years ago, but now the position of self-reliance had been achieved.
