The Central Commmittee of the Marxist party authorised the party's Politburo to take appropriate measures to ensure that its stand was implemented, according to a CPI(M) press communique in Kolkata.

The communique, issued after the 3-day Central Committee meeting in Kolkata, reiterated the party's stand unanimously adopted at its August 22-23 convention, in which it had asked the government not to proceed with taking the next step of negotiating the text of the Safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

It said the UPA-Left Committeee on the nuclear issue was examining various aspects of the Hyde Act and its implications for foreign policy and security-related matters.
