SEVERAL PARTS of the city went without power on Monday morning. The normal supply to the affected areas could be restored only in the evening.

The grim power scenario was worsened by the rainfall, which lashed the city from 2 am. Power lines developed snags due to the sudden downpour. Acute scarcity of water was reported in many areas, which were reeling under power crunch.
In Phoolbagh division, underground cable fault at 33 kv feeder resulted in power crisis in and around the areas of the division. Normal power supply to the areas could be restored only after 2 pm.
The areas which were hit included Civil Lines, Swaroop Nagar, Arya Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Birhaha Road, Kakadeo, Shastri Nagar, Gumti and Jawahar Nagar.
Apart from this, almost all parts of the south city went without power from 2.30 am till late in the evening. These included Saket Nagar, Kidwai Nagar, Govind Nagar, Barra, Naubasta, Juhi, Ratan Lal Nagar, Ashok Nagar and Dabouli.
The south city also witnessed severe water crisis. Long queues at the public taps and hand pumps were a common sight. Most of the southern areas of the city are dependent on tube wells and jet pumps for water supply. All zonal pumping stations and tube wells also went without power supply thereby aggravating the crisis.
When contacted, general manager of Kesco SK Rastogi feigned ignorance about the acute power crisis in the city.
“Only 33 kv feeder at Phoolbagh developed snag and during the rostering hours, the fault was detected,” said Rastogi.
For residents of the south city, power and water crisis have become a daily ordeal.
A resident of Saket Nagar, Shailendra Awasthi, complained about the indifferent attitude of Kesco officials.
“Power crisis has become a routine feature. We have now become accustomed to the inhuman treatment meted out to us,” he said.
He also complained about the acute water crisis in southern parts of the city, especially at Saket Nagar.
