Dravid turns 33

If one knock could decide the fate of the mankind, then it must be played by Rahul Dravid. His classicism guarantees security, and professionalism draws awe and envy.

A selfless player, who can stonewall any attack. And if need be, tear it
apart by sheer copybook stroke-play. This Karnataka batsman's is a rare breed of cricketer who thrives in adversity.
On Wednesday, its another beginning for this batsman. He turns 33. Wish him the very best on his birthday. He does need it. For it is not just another year.
2006 is going to be the supreme test of his character, and the proof if this
guy is indeed going to be the leader of men.
Against Pakistan, Dravid has not been as successful. In nine matches against arch-rivals, he has scored just 804. His average is 54, nearly three less than his career average.
Even in Pakistan, Dravid's 309 at an average of 77 mask the fact that in one innings alone at Rawalpindi, Dravid had hit 270.
But if just one knock could define the essence of a man, it was that. Having been captain in the first two tests in 2004 series, it must not have been easy to once again be deputy to Sourav in that historic tour.
But Dravid took that in his stride, batted for over 12 hours for a painstakingly compiled 270, which won India the series. Their first ever in Pakistan. In this series, he will be the protector for India. Warding off any early inroads.
