The way you dress and carry yourself speaks volumes about your personality even before you utter a word. Dress sense is something that can be acquired.
So, don't panic. Putting the right wardrobe together or dressing right means wearing clothes that complement your personality, physique as well as the occasion and the setting.
Cultivate a style
A corporate head honcho, who mixes with the top brass in the international business arena, has to be well dressed and well groomed. So where does one start?
First, take a look at yourself. Be critical and look at your flaws and assets with an unbiased eye.
Check body basics
Let's start from the body frame. Every physique falls into three different groups. So, before dressing, check which category you fall into. The first is the tall, lean frame. For such an appearance, select clothes that ‘cut down’ the height — reducing the long, lean look to create a 'fuller' image.
The second is the short, plump and slightly rounded body. With weight being a critical factor here, it is necessary to go for garments that make you look slim and tall.
The last group is a mixture of the first two types. Therefore, the figure could either be tall or short with narrow hips and broad shoulders or vice versa. It's difficult to suggest a dress for this group because of the mix in size.
However, taking into account shoulder and hip sizes, clothes should be styled in a way that they balance both these parts of the body.
The right proportion
The ideal body proportion is 50:50 where the legs and torso are equal in length. A 60:40 ratio means the torso is longer than the legs while 40:60 denotes that the torso is shorter. Checking the body proportion helps in selecting clothes that will creae a perfect balance between the torso and the legs.
