A drive down the IT expressway in Chennai seems more like a walk through an open-air museum of modern art. Abstract art, murals and sculptures liven up the walls of the institutions on the western side of the road that connects the Information Technology hub with the rest of the city. The idea behind the 300-crore project was to showcase Chennai's culture in a world-class infrastructure project. "Good art is either in museums or in rich people's homes. There is no public art at all," said Rohit Modi, Chief Executive Officer of the Tamil Nadu Road Development Company. "We contacted local artists. Then, we asked them to create murals and wall paintings," he said.
