A directive to this effect was issued to all the divisional commissioners, district magistrates and officials of labour commissioner including additional and deputy labour commissioners. Additional Labour Commissioner DP Singh confirmed that the State Government has issued such directives. Singh added besides, directives to submit a comprehensive report about the drive on December 4, at the office of Labour Commissioner, had also been issued.

Secretaries of Basic Education, Rural Development and Health have also been asked to issue directives to their respective departments for extending all possible help in identifying child labours, added Singh.

“The labour ministry has made the request in order to ensure that maximum child labours are identified in the ongoing drive,” said Singh. It may be pointed out that the Union Ministry of Labour had already issued a notification on October 10, banning child labour. As per the notification, child labours working at hazardous industrial units, roadside food joints, tea stalls, restaurants and hotels and as domestic servants among others would not be allowed.

The Labour Department had already launched a drive in the city to identify child labours working at prohibited places, especially, at illegally operated industrial units in residential colonies.
