The residents of blocks S, T, V and Siris Road were upset with garbage pile up on MCG land close to their houses. Besides the smell emanating from garbage, slums mushrooming in the area were posing security threat for the residents.

The residents have also complained about burning of plastics and polythenes by the slum dwellers. They had submitted a written complaint to the pollution control board and the MCG several times. The residents said that they used to get threat calls regularly.

"We don't know who has actually done it and how they have done it but they have made our life easy," said one of the residents.

According to MCG officials, the initiative was taken following high court orders.

"The initiative was certainly taken on the complaints of the residents of the area. But there were high court orders as well to get the land cleared," said Raman Sharma, executive engineer, MCG (Enforcement).
