He threw the infants on the street outside his house in Garh, Ghaziabad, around 3 am on Thursday.

While one of the infants died on the spot, the other was critically injured and is fighting for his life at a hospital, police said.

Satveer Singh, a farmer, had an argument with his wife Sunita Chawdhary over his drinking habit.

An angry Singh took his sons outside and threw them on a nearby street. Upon hearing the shouts of the mother, neighbours came out and found what had happened. They then thrashed the father and locked him up in a room.

“He later managed to escape and we haven't found him as yet. We are ashamed of this gruesome incident as our village is a very peaceful one,” said Ganga Bal Singh, the village head.

Singh's brother Sanjeev Singh rushed the other infant to a hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.

RP Sant, Station Officer, Garh, said, “The family members said Satveer had consumed alcohol and his wife objected to it. He was also furious over a land dispute with his father. His brother has lodged a complaint against him and the accused is still absconding.”

Police have registered a case under sections 304, 308 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code on Friday afternoon.

In another case, a father of five daughters had thrown two of his minor daughters into a canal at Muradnagar, Ghaziabad, last week.

While local people managed to save one of the girls, the other one is feared dead as her body hasn’t been found as yet.
