The low-cost housing, to be taken up in Al Quoz and Al Ghusais area of the city by the Dubai Minicipality in collaboration with the private sector, will cater to its low earning group residents, which included a considerable section of expartriates, the Gulf News today said.

"We want low-income groups of people to spend not more than 30 per cent of their income on accommodation," Abdullah Abdul Rahim, Director of the Planning Survey Department of the Municipality was quoted as saying by the daily.

A team has been formed for this purpose and is working on the plan, he said.

He said the department has already earmarked some areas in Al Quoz and Al Ghusais and is looking for some more areas to expand the scheme to different parts of the Emirate.

"We are discussing the scheme with public departments and the private sector as well to develop affordable housing for residents mainly expatriates," he said without elaborating on the number of housing units to be built or the cost of the project.
