E-mail to PM, President warns of terror strikes
The mail has been sent by five Kanpur residents, who call themselves "good samaritans", reports JT Vishnu.
Pakistan-based terrorist outfits Lashkar-e-Tayyeba and Jaish-e-Mohammad are planning fidayeen attacks on IIT-Kanpur, Varanasi's Kashi Vishwanath Temple and vital installations in the Capital. The attacks have been planned on or before Republic Day, according to an e-mail received by the offices of the President and the Prime Minister of India.
The mail has been sent by five Kanpur residents, who call themselves as good samaritans.
The mail says four ISI agents, including a woman, having links with Pakistani intelligence agencies and sympathisers of terrorists operating in Kashmir, have been collecting key information and maps of vital installations in Kanpur for long.
According to the mail, the "sympathisers", who the mail claims were also involved in the October 29 blasts, were also helping LeT and JeM plan attacks in north-eastern states.
The entire planning, the mail continues, was done by the terrorist outfits in Karachi in August 2005 on the instructions of the ISI.
Taking cognisance of the matter, the President's office forwarded the mail to the Cabinet Secretary. The Cabinet Secretariat, in turn, sent the note to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Sources said Joint Secretary (Home) K S Sugatan has sent a note to Delhi Police Commissioner Dr K.K. Paul along with a copy of the mail to take precautionary measures.
The mail identifies the sympathisers as Anjana Das, Deepak Lorenz, Bunty Das and Lalit Das, all residents of Civil Lines, Kanpur, who "have received a huge advance for this purpose and have been carrying out secret meetings to hand over key documents to LeT militants".
While Lorenz is said to have close links with JeM chief Mohammad Kaari, Anjana Das has been in touch with top military officials in Mumbai, Delhi and Kashmir. In fact, the email also mentions that Anjana never uses her private mobile phone to make calls to Pakistan and instead goes to a particular PCO in Naveen Market and Chaman Gunj areas of Kanpur. She also earns huge money from Pakistan through online banking, the mail says.
The mail also states three-four LeT militants had already arrived in some districts near Kanpur by road from Nepal. The senders of the mail have promised all possible assistance to security agencies to nab the militants.
Already, the Capital has been put on high alert following attacks on IISc in Bangalore last month. When contacted, a senior Delhi Police official said adequate security arrangements were being made to prevent any untoward incident during Republic Day celebrations.
