Singh, presently Commander-in-Chief of the tri-service command at Andaman and Nicobar islands succeeds Admiral Suresh Mehta, who has been named to be the next Naval Chief, according to an official announcement.

With Singh shifting to the Eastern Naval Command, the way has been paved for an Air Force officer to take over for the first time the tri-service command at Andaman. Earlier, only Naval and Army officers have commanded this joint Army, Navy and Air Force command.
