THE SUPPLY department will organise camps in various parts of the city to strengthen the public distribution system (PDS) and to provide foodgrain, kerosene and ration cards to the residents of the city. The first camp will be organised on Thursday 20 at Surajkund Colony. District supply officer Govardhan Lal said that he had received a letter from the government on April 18 and following the directive, the department had submitted a list of 23 places where such camps would be organised on April 20, 22, 23, 25 and 27 at Surajkund, Laldiggi, Qazipur Khurd, Durgabari and Dharmshala Bazar locality respectively.

Meanwhile, local MLA Dr RMD Agrawal claimed here that he had raised the issue of virtual collapse of the public distribution system before the principal secretary and in view of his complaint, the principal secretary had directed the department officials to organise the camp.

Dr Agrawal further said that he himself would be present in these camps and the residents of different localities would have to fill their forms for new ration cards and for renewal of old cards. He said that PDS outlets were not opening on the right time and they failed to fulfill the demands of the people. The major problem in the PDS was the communication gap between the common people and the officials, he said. Responding to a question, Dr Agrawal claimed that the city area had been exempted from emergency power rostering at night. He said even on Wednesday he discussed the issue with managing director of UP Power Corporation Distribution System Avanish Awasthi who had assured to cooperate.

He evaded reply to the question whether the issue of prolonged power cut was raised by local BJP MP Yogi Adityanath and he had hijacked the issue. It may be noted that the cordial relationship between Yogi Adityanath and his pupil Dr RMD Agrawal is stated to be souring these days .
