Electorate in Tamil Nadu drops marginally
The size of electorate for the 39 Lok Sabha seats from Tamil Nadu, has dropped by about five lakh voters to 4.72 crore since 1999 polls.
Tamil NaduThe size of electorate for the 39 Lok Sabha seats from Tamil Nadu, for which elections would be held on May 10, has dropped by about five lakh voters to 4.72 crore electorate as compared to the 4.77 crore voters in the electoral rolls for the 1999 lok sabha polls.

Women voters, who outnumber the men, has risen from 2.37 crore in 1999 to 2.39 crore while the male electorate has slumped from 2.39 crore in 1999 to 2.32 crore for the 2004 lok Sabha polls in the state, according to figures released by the state Chief Election Officer Mrutunjay Sarangi on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference here, he said of the 740 nominations filed for the 39 constituencies 571, including 23 women, were left in the fray after withdrawals and scrutiny.
Replying to questions, he said he had called a high level meeting tomorrow, which would be attended among others by the state Home Secretary, state Public Secretary, DGP of state police and IG Elections to identify and finalise sensitive areas and polling booths.
The meeting, he said, would also discuss requirement and deployment of state police and paramilitary personnel for maintenance of law and order and ensuring free and fair polling.
The question of requisitioning security forces from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, where polling had been completed, would be decided tomorrow, he said, in reply to a query.
