According to police, 1,170 candidates had been called for the selection test of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) at Bidhan Chandra Institute, however, when they reached the examination centre on Sunday, they found that the school can accommodate a maximum of only 600 applicants.
Irked over this, the applicants went on a rampage and damaged the furnitures of the institute, they said, adding that the situation was brought under control.
Meanwhile, SAIL Public Relations Officer B R Kanungo said, "We are investigating the matter. We have cancelled the exams and a fresh exam date would be announced soon."
