England will make a decision on the possible call-up of spinner Robert Croft for their Test series against Sri Lanka in the next few days.
Their squad already includes two spinners, slow left-armer Ashley Giles and off-spinner Gareth Batty, but skipper Michael Vaughan and coach Duncan Fletcher are considering adding a third.
"As we speak we have not made a decision, but we will be making an announcement in the next couple of days," said Vaughan at the official tour launch in Colombo.
Croft is already on stand-by and is the likely choice should the management conclude they need more slow bowling options on pitches that are expected to suit the slow bowlers.
The 33-year-old, who took nine wickets during the 2001 series in Sri Lanka, has 49 wickets from 21 Test appearances.
He also caught the eye of chairman of selectors David Graveney with match-winning performance in the final of the recent Hong Kong Sixes.
