The incident took place when the inspector, after withdrawing the money from the State Bank of India Cantonment branch, was going home.

As the inspector went to the Rail Bazaar police station and related the incident, the police swung into action. SP (City) Sabhraj Singh also rushed to the spot and launched a manhunt for the criminals.

Though the police cordoned off the area, they could not get any clue about the criminals. According to reports, inspector Ram Pyare Rahi, who was suspended for committing some irregularities, was reinstated on Friday. He had gone to the Cantonment branch of the SBI, withdrew a sum of Rs 15,000 and kept it in a bag.

As he came out of the bank, he received a call on his mobile and was engaged in conversation. Suddenly, two motorcycle- borne miscreants came from the Allahabad crossing side, snatched the money bag from him and sped away.

Immediately after the incident, the inspector raised an alarm and some betel shop owners came to his help. They tried to chase the criminals but could not catch hold of them.

After the incident, Rahi rushed to the Cantonment police station where the police officials told that the area where the incident took place did not come under their jurisdiction. They advised the inspector to go to the Rail Bazaar police station.According to Rahi, the police officials were hesitant to lodge a complaint of loot. But when he revealed his identity, the police swung into action. Several policemen including the SP (city) rushed to the spot and started checking the vehicles. The Rail Bazaar police registered a compliant of loot.
