Ex-J&K minister escapes life bid

Two persons were killed and 60 others injured as militants lobbed a grenade during a public meeting of Ghulam Hassan Mir.

Two persons were killed and 60 others, including eight policemen, injured as militants lobbed a grenade during a public meeting of senior PDP leader and former minister Ghulam Hassan Mir, who escaped with minor injuries, in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, official sources said.

Mir was addressing a rally in his home constituency of Tangmarg, 45 kms from here, when militants hurled the grenade towards the dais at around 1500 hrs, the sources said.

The former minister had a narrow escape with minor splinter injuries in his leg while 62 others, including Sub-station House Officer (SDPO) and Station House Officer (SHO) of Tangmarg police station and six other policemen, were injured in the attach, the sources said adding two personal security officers of Mir were also among the injured.

The explosive was hurled by terrorists on Mir, former tourism minister in PDP-led coalition government, when he was about to conclude the rally.
