The police said 54 kg sulphur, 45 kg Sodium Nitrate, 150 kg Potassium Nitrate and fuse wire weighing over one kg were seized from an abandoned quarry near Mattannur where the trio were found to be assembling explosives.
Locals had alerted police on spotting strangers inside the quarry located at Vellapparambu near Mattannur town over the last four days.
The three, who were arrested under the Explosives Substances Act and for carrying explosives without valid documents, told police that the consignment had reached here from Thrissur for bursting crackers on festival occasions in the nearby areas, sources said.
