Lanky left hand bat Faisal Hossain has been playing in the domestic leagues since early 2000.

It was in the 2003/04 season that he caught the attention of the national selectors with some fine performances in the National Cricket League. He had the second highest average of 40.73 in the four-day First Class league that included a hundred and four half centuries.

He was picked to play for the Bangladesh A team against the visiting Zimbabwe A team and showed some outstanding form.

In the one-day series, he topped the averages (59.33) with scores of 27, 61*, 74* and 16 at a strike-rate of better than a run a ball (178/179).

In the First Class series, he showed his talent for the long form of the game with some good scores including a pugnacious 83, batting on for 201 minutes.

His fine performance was rewarded by the selectors with a maiden cap with the seniors when he was chosen to join the tour party for the 2004 tour of the West Indies.
