THAT THE education mafia is still alive and kicking in the State was confirmed by the reported cancellation of over one lakh incomplete registration forms for High School and Intermediate Examinations-2007 on several grounds.
The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad has received around 1.40 lakh registration forms of students studying in class 9th and 11th of the academic year 2005-06 without their photographs pasted on the forms meant for appearing in High School and Intermediate examinations of 2007.
Taking a serious note, the UP Board has decided to cancel these registration forms thereby depriving these students from appearing in 2007 examinations.
Though a probe is likely to be ordered into the matter as to how these forms had been accepted and forwarded by the respective colleges to the Board, it clearly shows the involvement of education mafia in connivance with a section of UP Board staff, said Board office sources.
The Board officials have also threatened the erring colleges with withdrawing their recognition.
The registration forms cancelled for not having photographs of students, were dispatched from Allahabad, Lucknow, Agra, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Faizabad and Devi Patan divisions.
Nearly 17,417 students are from Allahabad whose registration forms have been cancelled by the Board.
The Board had also found irregularities in 84,000 registration forms last year.
Sources said that some colleges were offering to help students, particularly outstation students, who had failed in 9th and 11th class so that they could clear their High School and Intermediate examinations by adopting unfair means.
A Board official, on the condition of anonymity, said that the last date for depositing registration forms at the District Inspector of Schools office was December 31, so it would be too early to make any comments on the issue.
