Glam gals Aishwarya Rai, Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta and Susmita Sen may be coming together for the biggest blockbuster ever. Sadly you won't be able to see it at a theatre near you.
Only a lucky few at Mumbai's National Center for Performing Arts, venue for the India Fashion Week (IFW) to be held later this month, will be privy to the show. The celebrity models are expected to catwalk as part of a series of exciting surprises being planned for buyers at India's premier fashion event.
While there has been no official confirmation so far, the presence of Bollywood divas could certainly make things come alive says Bipasha. "The 48 male and female models chosen for the event will ensure quality display for the various designer collections. However I think audiences want something more. A model who is also an actress, can create that extra bit of drama on the ramp and that could be the difference between a successful show and a sellout," she exults. And it would be a treat for not just those present at the venue. According to former Miss Universe Lara Dutta, some of the glitter is bound to rub off on the celebrity models too. "Doing the catwalk at the IFW is an unique opportunity to sell yourself to thousands of decision makers from the world of fashion, advertising and showbiz. For that moment in time, you could have the entire world at your feet," quips Lara while admitting that she's been approached to participate.
The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) that organises the mega event every year is understandably reluctant to get into details. "We have a lot many promotional activities lined up. While a number of film personalities are expected to attend, it is difficult to confirm their participation at this stage. Besides the empanelled models, individual designers are free to invite whomsoever they please to showcase their products. And the presence of model-turned-actresses like Bipasha, Aishwarya and Lara will no doubt add immense value to the event", says Ruchi Sharma, a senior official of the Council.
