An FIR was on Thursday lodged against Congress candidate from Shravasti parliamentary constituency Vinay Pandey for allegedly assaulting a district office-bearer of BSP, police sources here said.

The case was lodged against Pandey for allegedly beating BSP's district vice president Rahul Pathak, who alleged irregularities in poll process, at Deoria Rachhora polling station this morning.

Pathak had accused the Congress candidate of committing irregularities in the poll process. Irked by the accusation, Pandey along with his supporters allegedly assaulted the BSP's district vice president.

A raid was later carried out at Pandey's residence, but he was not found, police said.
