If you’ve wondered whether Indian fine dining can ever get away from the trap of dowdy décor and jarring ghazals, go to Fire. This Terence Conran-designed restaurant has all the ingredients of a good place to go out for a meal with friends: world music, young, friendly waiters, a menu that represents the best of Indian cuisine, and standard that haven’t shown any signs of slipping. All that this restaurant needs is a little more imaginative vegetarian menu. Check out their Spicy Sweet Corn and Crab Soup, Aubergine Pakora with Aloo Chaat, Mutton Dora Kebabs, Gilawati Kebab, and Caesar Salad with Chicken Malai Kebab. For mains, order their vegetarian Achari Risotto, Daab Chingri (luscious prawns in a gently spiced mustard and coconut gravy served in a green coconut shell) and Banjara Safri Meat.
