"The fishes might have died due to polluted water as chemicals, drainage water was being released in the river," the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) officials said.

Deputy Mayor Devyani Pharande visited the river bank and had written a letter to the pollution control board to avoid further pollution.

A local Marathi daily recently had undertaken huge drive to save the river, stop pollution and NMC commissioner Bhaskar Sanap had taken a serious note and issued orders to health department of NMC under various measures to keep river clean, they said.
