Five forgettable moments
The moments to be forgotten.
Shameful lifters

Our weightlifters may not have created waves in the arena. But off it, through doping, they have become world famous. Six lifters tested positive in the year due to which the federation faced its third international ban, after 2004 and 2006. In the wake of all this, the federation resigned en mass and was replaced by a new body. Shame!
Kalmadi vs Hooper
2010 CWG Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi took on Commonwealth Games Federation CEO Mike Hooper head on in October, days after the CGF general assembly. Kalmadi called Hooper ‘useless’ (it was rumoured Kalmadi was supposed to say ‘of no use’) and sought Hooper’s ouster. Hooper was adamant and stood his ground. Finally, they called for a truce in London during the Baton Relay.
Bhutia-Bagan tussle
Shaking a leg with a hot dance partner in a TV reality show might have made the officials at his club, Mohun Bagan, jealous. The Kolkata club suspended Bhutia for six months alleging the striker failed to reply to a show-cause notice slapped on him after he skipped practice and an exhibition game to take part in Jhalak dikhla Ja. Bhutia dumped
Bagan and signed for East Bengal after an interim ruling from the AIFF’s arbitrator.
Hockey hangama
If there were any awards for notoriety, Indian hockey would have clinched the honours. That was the story of Indian hockey administration this year. The Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) gave way to Hockey India (HI), but the infamy remained the same. The new body despite numerous efforts, failed to hold the elections. Every second day an official resigned, new coach (Jose Brasa) was brought in. Skipper Sandeep Singh was replaced by Rajpal Singh for no reason. Court cases. The list is endless!
Pheww!!!! Would you still say
CHAK DE!
Fever Pitch:
If you were a spectator, it couldn't get worse. You wake up early and queue for hours to enter and before you realise, you are bundled out. The December 27 ODI match between India and SL was abandoned. Resignations, allegations, counter-allegations flew thick and fast as the DDCA got engulfed in a dirty game. World Cup matches are in doubt.
