Five militants, including an infiltrator from across the Line of Control and a district commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad were killed in two separate operations by security personnel in Srinagar, a police spokesman said on Saturday.

Based on a tip-off, a joint operation by the police and army was conducted in which four militants, including JeM district commander were killed in Kupwara district, the spokesman said.

As the police zeroed in on the target area, militants opened indiscriminate fire to which the personnel retaliated.

Of the four gunned down militants, two have been identified as self-styled district commander Amjad Bhai and LeT militant Abu Saifullah, he said, adding that both belonged to Pakistan.

Terming killing of Amjad Bhai as a big success, he said the slain militant was active in area since 2001 and was also involved in the recent abduction and killing of two policemen in Lolab area this month.

Identity of the other killed militants is being ascertained, he said.

Army foiled an infiltration bid in Keran sector of Kupwara district by killing an unidentified militant, he said.
