Five pedestrians killed in Jammu road mishap

The driver had lost control over the vehicle due to some techincal fault, instantly killing five pedestrians.

Five pedestrians were killed and an equal number injured on Sunday when a matador hit them near Diagana Ashram, on the outskirts of the city, police said.

The matador, which was on way from Rai Suchani village to Jammu hit the pedestrians around 0700 hours near Diagana Ashram killing the five on the spot, police said adding the five injured were travelling in the matador.

The driver of the vehicle identified as Khushvinder Singh had lost control over the vehicle due to some techincal fault. He was nabbed by the passers-by and later handedover to police.

The dead and injured were rushed to the hospital, police said.

However, the agitating people in the area tried to set ablaze the vehicle and also blocked traffic in the area. However, the Minister of State for Public Works Department Gulchain Singh Charak along with senior officials rushed to the spot and defused the situation, police said.
