Flower show ends

A two-day annual flower and vegetable show at the Raj Bhawan concluded here on Sunday with Governor, TV Rajeswar giving away prizes to the participants. Maximum awards went to the Army?s Central Command. The Railways and the State Horticulture department also bagged a larger number of awards whereas among parks category Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) led others in getting awards for the best entry.

The Hindustan Times sponsored running shield went to the Raj Bhawan superintendent, the incharge, Chief Minister's residence, 5 Kalidas Marg and Major General JJ Malwan, separately. Police Corporation MD, Har Amol Singh bagged the award for the best entry in individual category.

As many as 6,049 participants participated in this year's show. They participated with 1879 entries of various categories. A total of 102 running shields and cups to the participants classified into 34 categories.

Around a dozen children were also given awards for artistic arrangement of flowers.

Among the stalls, the Training Institute, Basti and Dhanvantri Vatika, Raj Bhawan were jointly declared the winners whereas the award for the garden (vatika) on more than 200 sq ft area went to Governor's wife. DGP Yashpal's wife Geeta Singh won the best winner award in the 500 sq ft park category.
